Last Movie Night of the Year :(

Tonight was the last movie night of the year :(  Very sad...  Not because of the movie, we watched Mulan, and it was great!  But sad because it was the last.  There will be no more movie nights this season.  And not to many days left to swim with the kids being back in school.  The summer was so much fun, but went way too fast.  As we were leaving the pool tonight one of the lifeguards came out to the car to tell my girls good bye.  She leaves tomorrow to go up to college.  It is sad to see them leave.  It is nights like tonight that makes what I do on the pool board worth while...  I probably be back to wondering why I am doing it by Thursday night (another pool board meeting that night).  But as for today, I love our pool :)

Hide, Fur, Rock!

You might wonder what that means...  We do too!  This is a game Catalina and Savannah made up this evening.  We were waiting for a couple kids to finish brushing their teeth so we could say prayers when they started to play it.  It was inspired off of Ben trying to break a board with a karate chop (he was also one of the kids that we were waiting for...)  The game went as follows...

Savannah would hold her hands palm up side by side...  Catalina would "chant" hide, fur, rock!  And then she would hit Savannah's hand with her fist as to break a board.  Savannah would then "break" her hands a part.

It was quite funny to watch.  They then moved on to having Josh hold his hands (because mommy wouldn't play along).

Rainy Day Pictures

How many umbrellas
do you count?

Josh practising his smile :)
We did Case family pictures a couple days ago.  They were outside pictures, but the weather didn't cooperate with us.  It RAINED!!!  It was still fun (although I am not too sure all the kids would agree with that).  I hope the pictures turn out good.  Here are a few from the day...

What happened to common courtesy?

I think this question often unfortunately.  But usually I get over the act of rudness.  However today's act of rudeness really rubs me the wrong way.  As I have mentioned before, I am on a pool board for a little community pool.  Over the last two and a half years I have questioned why I am doing it.  Today was another one of those days...
My cute baby at the pool

My position on the board requires me sign checks for bills, reimbursement, payroll, etc.  The process our pool uses, is a two signature signing on checks.  There are only three of us who can sign the checks.  This usually isn't a problem, but lately it seems to be harder to meet up to get checks signed.  About a month back, I was at the pool early one Monday morning for my kids swim lessons.  We had many things to get done that day, and we didn't plan to stay and swim.  While I was there I was informed by another pool board member that the person with checks was on her way for me to sign checks, and that she would be there in an half an hour...  An hour later I left, and she had still not shown up...

Last night this same person sent me a text asking if I would go by the pool sometime today and sign the payroll checks so that the lifeguards could have them tomorrow...  I asked this person if she might send me a text after she had dropped the checks off, so that I wouldn't have the problem of the checks not being there...  She texted back:  I will be going early tomorrow on way 2 work so assume they will be in safe by 10:00.  I guess I should have clarified that she meant AM.  Because when I showed up at the pool at 10:30 (after going to the doctor for my baby who was running a fever and has a croupy cough, and who kept us up until 2am and then up again for an hour or more during the night) the checks were not there!  I could not find them, and I LOOKED for them.  So I tried texting and then calling this person to see what had happened.  She finally answered the second call, and informed me that she had actually not been to the pool yet, but that she was walking out the door and would be at the pool in five minutes...  I guess she meant she would be leaving her house in five minutes, because she showed up fifteen minutes later...  forty-five minutes after I got to the pool...

I understand that things happen, and that plans don't always work out.  I get that.  What I don't get is why you can't show common courtesy and call or text me that you are running late.  I had other errands to run, that I would have (and should have) done first.  Really just a little courtesy goes a LONG way!

Winning!!!

Earlier this week Josh won a BUNCH of stuff from a radio station.  Over two hundred dollars worth of stuff.  It was awesome!  I blogged last year about my addiction with winning, and I have to say that it hasn't gone away.  I mentioned my friends blog that gives away things.  Since I won the first time I have won MANY more times.  And another friend started a similar blog that I have also won many times on (all though it has been a while for both blogs).  But Josh's winning on Monday inspired me to call yesterday to try and win on a different radio station that was doing a giveaway if you could answer the question correctly.  I got through easily twice (actually three times, but I hung up the third time, because I didn't have an answer to give) but sadly I did not have the right answer...  I thought more about the question, and I finally came up with a good answer, and called again.  And I got through!  And it rang, and rang!  And while it was ringing the deejay on the radio gave another clue, that made me second guess my answer.  So I came up with a different answer before they answered my line.  The question was: According to a recent survey nearly 20% of women admit to doing this at least once during their life. Doing what? My third guess was hanging posters in their room (I know lame).  And I was soooo close.  At this point I knew that my other answer was right, and that there was no way I would get a fourth chance to try and win.  So I asked if my husband could answer too (I have heard others try this and they have said yes to them).  His answer was : Kiss a poster!  And he was right!  And so Josh won again this week!  If you'd like to listen to the whole thing from the radio you can go here ...  But you really don't NEED to listen to it.  You get the gist of how it went :)

*We won four tickets to the Parade of Homes (yay!) and four tickets to the Colorado State Fair!

Really??? I have to call you again???

I have had to call Qwest for a couple different things over the last week and a half.  I spent probably an hour on the phone over two different calls last week.. Only to find out that they messed things up, and have to call them this week.  I literally called them four times yesterday.  And after spending almost two hours on the phone with them, and threatening to sue and switch companies, they finally got things figured out (I hope)!

This afternoon the whole Internet service went out!  We were getting ready to leave for Case family pictures (Josh's family not our "little" family), so we didn't worry too much about it.  But hours later when we got home, it was still out.  And so I found myself calling Qwest yet again!  And their answer?  It might be out for TWO days!  Really???

Obviously it was not two days (just 8 hours), but it kind of felt like it :)

What the Heck?

It's raining as I write this.  I love the rain!  I love how it cools things off, makes everything turn green, but most of all how it smells!  I even love a good thunder storm, where the ground moves, and the sound goes on and on. I love the rain!  Yesterday it rained good and hard!  The rain lasted for over an hour even. It was so nice!  But during this rain something unusual happened...

Pictures don't really do it justice!
My brother came over to help with a computer problem (that is NOT the weird thing).  It was raining hard when they got here.  His family came with him.  I noticed when his daughter walked in the grass that water splashed up.  I was about to warn my nephew, but he took a step into the grass before I could say anything...  That is when I noticed the grass.  It was bulging up.  Like a little dome.  And when you stepped on the grass it moved!!!  So crazy.  I of course ran back in to get the camera and try to take a picture of it.  As it continued to rain, the grass continued to grow!  Until it POPPED!  That's right, the grass popped!  You could see where it was no longer attached, and where the water was pouring out!.  I should probably be concerned about the fact that my grass was growing, but it was sooo cool that I'm not :)
My foot is sunken in to the grass
This is when it had popped.
You can see where all the water is.
